The rain stayed away, the midges came out to support en masse and the racing was fast and thrilling once again!
This week’s 12km route followed a similar line through Mugdock Country Park, adding distance in the process, before taking a 6km loop through some technical and, at times steep, trails through Craigallian Woods.
The leading two men in the overall series set the pace once again (Stephen Campbell closely pursued by Rudy Romain) with Stuart Govan not far behind. In the women’s race Annie Walters (3rd last week) finished ahead of Emma Birnie and Sara Nunney, 2nd and 3rd respectively, all three separated by only 1m26s.
The course was a step up from last week with 4kms more distance, but mainly a step up in technical trails which, for some, was a first – what an introduction to technical trailrunning!
The overall leaderboard for the Solstice Trail Series is looking interesting. Sara Nunney looks to have secured 1st barring illness of injury (or a mad sprint in race 3 from Kirsty Horne) and in the men it’s a clear battle between Stephen and Rudy. Can Rudy claw back over 3 minutes, or will Stephen keep his place at the front of the race? Next week is shaping up to be a corker!
What’s the chances we get some rain to spice things up even more? Did I just say that?
Awesome stuff all round – thank you all once again for making the races so brilliant.
