All races start at 7pm at Mugdock Country Park, Milngavie, Glasgow

The inaugural Solstice Trail Series is a three-race series featuring some of the best trails to be found between Glasgow and The Trossachs. The routes have been carefully designed to challenge and reward runners, whether you’re chasing a time, or running your first trail race.

Each evening race will start and finish at Mugdock Country Park Visitor Centre and will feature wide tracks, technical singletrack, hills and stunning views on the extensive trail network both within the Country Park and in Craigallian Woods.

Route Descriptions

Race 1 | 7km | 100m+

The 7km is a fast course which will see runners vying for early positions and eyeing up the two long sections of flat, wide trail where speed will be the order of the day. All this before some twisting, technical sections and an uphill finish to see if those flats have left anything in the tank! If you’d rather a slightly more leisurely approach, the route highlights include the 13th century Mugdock Castle, the remains of anti-aircraft gun sites from WW2 (built to protect the shipyards of Glasgow and Clydebank), Mugdock Loch, the Drowning Pond and Gallow Hill.

Race 2 | 12km | 180m+ 

The 12km route follows parts of the 7km route before it leaves the Park and crosses into Craigallian Woods. Here we mix wide forest tracks with some awesome, singletrack. The wide tracks offer a chance to look up and take in your surroundings, while the singletrack will demand your concentration on the forest floor. You may think technical singletrack doesn’t exist so close to Glasgow, but we promise you, it does! (race route to be finalised)

Race 3 | 15km | 270m+ 

The 15km follows a mix of trails in the Park in the first half of the race, before heading deep into the woods for a thrilling mix of wide tracks and tight, technical singletrack. The route allows for speed goats to thrash themselves on the wide tracks, for the nimble-footed to float through the technical sections and for trailrunning newbies to appreciate why we get so excited about running trails. In essence, this is why we #RunDirty! (race route to be finalised)

All routes are fully marked and marshalled. The above route descriptions are indicative and may be amended prior to race day.

The Solstice Trail Series will be a celebration of outstanding trails, so expect moors, forests, rocks, gravel, roots, views, mud and great fun!

Runner’s Agreement

By participating in the TrailFest Solstice Trail Series races you agree to this Runner’s Agreement.

  • TrailFest celebrates trailrunning. Therefore, these races are unashamedly trail races. This means varied terrain, ascents and descents and a high chance you will get your feet wet and muddy. The distances are approximate and, like all good trail races, will actually be slightly longer than the advertised distance.
  • Runners are required to be self-sufficient for these races. This means there will be NO WATER OR FOOD STATIONS on any of the courses. It is the runner’s responsibility to carry all of the food and liquids they require, taking into account weather conditions on the day of the races.
  • Runners are required to carry a charged mobile phone in case of emergency
  • Runners are required to adopt appropriate trailrunning etiquette. This means:
    • Look out for your fellow runners. If they are in difficulty, offer assistance and contact the nearest marshal.
    • Share the trail. While we may be racing on the trails and have secured appropriate consent to do so, we do not have sole use of the trails. The trails will be being used by walkers and dogs, mountain bikers (who may be going at speed), horse riders etc. We all have shared access and no single user has trail priority. If approaching other trail users from behind, shout a gentle “hello” in advance of reaching them so as not to startle them and give them time to move to one side.
  • No littering.
  • No under 18s.
  • Runners are not permitted to run with dogs.
  • Gates: Please close all gates you run through.
  • Livestock: on the 15km race there is a section which uses trails over two fields. There may be cows in these fields. If unsure, take a wide berth and act responsibly. The livestock in these fields are very used to trail users going by.
  • No headphones to be worn at any point. This is a safety matter so that you are aware of fellow runners, other trail users and marshal instructions. Instead, enjoy the natural trail and the atmosphere!
  • Trail shoes are recommended for these runs.
  • All marshals and event staff have the authority to disqualify or withdraw any runner they deem to be breaking the Runner’s Agreement or who are in too poor a condition to continue on the race.
  • If you decide to withdraw from the race, you MUST INFORM the nearest marshal or event staff who will take a note of your bib number and take your dibber. If you do not do this, there is a high risk we undertake a search and rescue for you and may even need to call out Mountain Rescue.
  • Runners are required to return their timing dibber at the end of the race.
  • Any runner not adhering to these rules will be disqualified.
  • Trophies will be awarded for Female 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Male 1st, 2nd, 3rd for each race. There will be overall Series trophies awarded to Female 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Male 1st, 2nd, 3. There will be no age category prizes/trophies
  • Any dispute in the final results will be dealt with by the timing team and the Race Director. The Race Director’s decision will be final.
  • Emergency procedures for the race are:
    • If you encounter an injury to yourself or another runner, assist them immediately. Then contact Race HQ on: 07765372613 or 07971517114. We will make a decision on whether to call out the emergency services and how to respond.
    • If you encounter a life threatening emergency, contact 999 or 112 immediately. Ask for the Police, then ask for Mountain Rescue and ask for an ambulance. Inform us as soon as possible after this.
  • Refunds. Refunds are available up to 7 days prior to each ace. After this time there will be no refunds.
  • Cancellation. If in the unlikely event that the weather forces us to cancel any of the races, runners will be offered a free entry to an equivalent, future race.
